About the Club
The history of American football in the Czech Republic began to be written after World War II. At that time, soldiers of the American liberation forces faced each other here. However, it took a little longer before the first team settled in our territory.Prague Lions rewrote this history in 1991 when they became the first team of American football in the Czech Republic. The first trainings of the Lions took place in Letná Park, where several "fanatics" gathered, who noticed this amazing sport on television.
Although the Czech Republic had its first team, it took a while before the entire competition was established and there were enough participants to create the Czech American football league. This happened in 2004 when the Czech Association of American Football was formed. In that year, the historic first season also took place, which ended after the regular season. The Czech Bowl, the culmination of the American football season following the example of the NFL and its Super Bowl, began to be played only in 1995. The Prague Lions first won it a little later in 1998 when they defeated the Prague Panthers in the final with a score of 29:8.
The historically most successful period for the Lions came between 2004-2006, when we managed to win three titles in a row. We were in the Czech Bowl final for seven consecutive years. However, then came a dry spell, and after years, the entire team underwent reorganization. In 2018, Prague Lions were taken over by different owners, and the concept of the whole team changed. Eventually, it paid off. After twelve seasons of drought and emptiness, the Lions celebrated again with the victory in the Czech Bowl by defeating the Ostrava Steelers in the final duel.
Currently, the Prague Lions are not only working towards winning more titles but also, and perhaps most importantly, towards educating new young players who should be the future of American football, not only here but also elsewhere. We strive to be a role model for all youth programs and are truly proud of working with teams under U19, U15, and U12. We also make long-term efforts to collaborate with American universities, where we regularly send our players and coaches for "experience," because one can truly absorb American football only by seeing it firsthand overseas. As the Prague Lions, we can also celebrate a huge success as we introduced the first Czech American football player in history, who was drafted into the professional American football league. It was Alain Pae, who started with the Lions in this great sport, and was picked by the EE Football Team (formerly Edmonton Eskimos) in the CFL 2020 draft.
PRAGUE LIONS IN THE EUROPEAN LEAGUE
The Prague Lions senior team is the first American football team to be established in the Czech Republic. Since its inception, the Lions seniors have been among the best that the Czech Republic has to offer. It is our most sophisticated group, as it utilizes the experiences gathered from previous categories. We strive to continue developing players here. That's why we also have the widest coaching base, including coaches from the USA. Our goal is not only sports success on the field but also off it. The recent triumph in the Czech Bowl 2021 is a driving force for us, motivating us to maintain the title in the coming years.

JUNIORS PRAGUE LIONS (Juniors U21)
The Juniors Prague Lions have long been the most successful youth program in the Czech Republic, having won a total of nine titles since the founding of the junior league in 2001. Our junior team, like the other categories, maintains a high level of coaching, thanks in part to American coaches who are here throughout the year, as well as Czech coaches who are almost all connected with great coaches in America. Another no less important and unique aspect of our junior team is our own project, during which every year we select two to three players who, for their merits (connection of skills in football, exemplary behavior in the locker room, good grades at school, etc.) are sent to various world football camps. YOUTH PRAGUE LIONS (Youth U18)
The Youth Prague Lions team serves as a bridge between the non-contact flag form and the classic contact form of American football. The youth team provides an opportunity for players to continue learning and developing their game, experiencing more and more of the true, contact form of American football. The youths receive the same high level of coaching as our junior and flag teams, which allows them to make the transition to what we call "big football."

FLAG U15 PRAGUE LIONS
From the very beginning, the Prague Lions have maintained their youth programs as a priority. We continually strive to establish new age categories and introduce children to the beauty of American football at increasingly younger ages. The flag version of American football is non-contact, making it ideal for young boys and girls. Here, they learn the fundamentals of the game, hard work, and teamwork.
